STUDIO POLICY
The purpose of this Studio Policy is to provide information regarding our requirements and procedures as they relate to your visit to Tooradin Tattoo for tattooing. We also want to make you aware of the potential health risks associated with the tattooing process and the procedures we use to minimise risk.
We want you to feel comfortable getting your new tattoo from us and to ensure that your health and safety concerns are addressed. Our policies are intended to help provide our clients the safest, most enjoyable experience possible and a safe, healthy working environment for our staff.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
In the days leading up to your appointment we recommend that you get some good quality sleep, and also eat a healthy diet. We also advise against drinking any alcohol or taking any illicit drugs 2-3 days before your appointment.
On the day of your appointment we ask that you have something to eat before coming into the studio as well as having a drink to bring with you that has a high sugar amount.
If you are getting a tattoo in an area that is quite hairy, we ask that you DO NOT shave it with a razor, wax the said area or use any hair removal creams or lotions, doing so can damage the skin in the area of the tattoo, and can result in us not being able to tattoo that said area.
If you would like to shave said area we recommend using an electric trimmer only.
If you have any fake tan in the area that is going to be tattooed, we ask that you try and remove as much as you can without damaging the skin in said area, and we will remove the rest during the tattoo process. (We also ask you to refrain from putting any fake tan on for 2-3 weeks after being tattooed as it can affect the healing process.)
If you have any skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, we ask that you let us know prior to your appointment. IF there is an area affected by said skin condition we may have to reschedule your appointment.
Please note that during the tattoo process it is possible for you to pass out. To minimise the risk of this happening all of our artists will inform you of the warning signs prior to starting the tattoo. We ask that if you do start to feel sick, dizzy, light-headed, your vision may start to become impaired or generally unwell, we ask that you inform us as soon as possible and DO NOT try and fight off any of the above feelings.
If you do pass out, we will stop the tattooing process immediately. We will also give you some sort of food or drink that is high in sugar, this will help regulate your blood/sugar levels and return your blood pressure to normal levels. We may also sit you in a upright position and wrap a cold, damp cloth around your neck to cool you down.
Please note that if the following does occur, we may have to stop the tattooing process for 20-30 minutes or reschedule your appointment entirely. IF this does happen we will NOT charge you any more than the quoted amount.
We have EFTPOS available at our Studio and will gladly take payments via Credit and Debit card. Unfortunately we can not accept American Express.
YOU MUST BE 18+ years old to get a tattoo, with no exceptions. Please note, if you are under the age of 18, or look under the age of 18, we may ask for you to provide some sort of legal identification. This may include the following: Driver's licence (L Plater licence is okay), Pass port, Birth certificate or Proof of age card.

SAFE GUARDING YOUR HEALTH – OUR POLICY
Tooradin Tattoo requires that you be eighteen (18) years of age or older to obtain services at our studio. You will be asked to present a valid, legal identification before we will start work. We do not advocate the tattooing of anyone under the age of eighteen.
Consent Form
All clients are required to read and sign a “Consent to Application of Tattoo and Release and Waive of All Claims” form prior to receiving services from Tooradin Tattoo. Please read it carefully and make sure that you understand what you are signing. If you do not understand something in the consent form, do not sign it without asking for clarification first.
Communicable Diseases
To minimise the risk of infection, our artists do not work when they are ill. We also ask that you postpone your visit to our studio until your are free from any disease that could put other clients or our staff at risk. We want to provide the cleanest, safest environment possible and need your cooperation to do so. Additionally, tattooing can tax your immune system. If you are ill, it may increase your recovery time and also put you more at risk for possible infection or other health-related complications.
If you have any concern related to getting tattooed while on ANY medication, please talk to your doctor or GP to see what they think about you getting tattooed while on said medication.
Drinking and Drugs
We do not tattoo anyone known to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Alcohol and/or drugs will thin your blood, which can lead to excessive bleeding. If you are taking prescribed medications, please tell your artist ahead of time.
Medical Conditions
If you under the care of a physician for a medical condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, please tell your artist ahead of time. If a medical emergency arises while you are at our studio, we will be better prepared to handle it.
If you have had an medical operation recently we advise consulting with your doctor to see if they think it is a good idea to get tattooed.
If you have to undergo any chemotherapy we ask that you let our staff know so we can take care of any complications that may arise from you being tattooed.
Pregnant Women
We do not tattoo pregnant women. Everything that goes into your body can affect your unborn baby. Potential allergic reactions or infections could also put you and your baby at risk. The process may also affect your immune system and its ability to help you fight off infection. You should also delay that new tattoo if your are nursing. We want you and your baby to be as healthy as possible.
Safe Guarding Your Health – Our Procedures
Listed below are some of the procedures we use to provide the safest, most sterile conditions possible for your new tattoo. If you have any questions regarding the tattooing process, don’t be afraid to ask!
Disposable Gloves
All our artists wear standard medical Nitrile gloves during the tattooing process.
Inks and Pigments
All inks and pigments used for your tattoo are poured from its universal container into brand new, sterile ink caps. We DO NOT pour the remaining ink back into the universal container.
Needles
We use brand new, hospital-sterilised, disposable needles for each and every client. The artist will show you the sterile packaging and will open it only in your presence.
Non-disposable Equipment
All non-disposable equipment, such as metal equipment, is sterilised following strict health and safety guidelines in our in-studio, working autoclave. Autoclaving is the only form of sterilising accepted in Australia for medical instruments. Autoclave bags are opened only in your presence. If you have questions or concerns regarding the sterilisation process we use, just ask. We will be happy to step you through it.
Razors
The artist will usually prepare the area to receive a tattoo by shaving it. We use brand new, disposable, safety razors for each client and dispose of them immediately.
Making You Aware – The Risks
While tattooing is considered generally safe and we take all possible precautions to safeguard your health, there are known risks associated with the process. The Web is an excellent way to research all the risks associated with tattoos and to learn about the things you should look for when selecting a studio. We advise you to consider all risks prior to obtaining a new tattoo from any studio.
Allergic Reactions
You may experience an allergic reaction to the dyes, pigments, and processes used in tattooing. We cannot determine or guarantee that you will not have an allergic reaction. If you are unsure or are concerned, start with a small tattoo first. However, this still will not guarantee that you will not experience an allergic reaction to larger tattoos.
Bacterial Infection
Tattoos can lead to bacterial infections, particularly if they are not properly cared for. Following our aftercare instructions can help reduce the risk of infection. However, if your immune system is depressed because of illness or you have an allergy to any part of the process, your risk for infection is greater. If you have any questions regarding the care of your tattoo, call us!
Hepatitis
This viral disease is becoming more prevalent every day. Obtaining a tattoo from a “dirty” studio or from an untrained friend or relative can often be the culprit. We follow all safety guidelines required to help prevent cross-contamination.
HIV
Because of the method of transmission of HIV, your risk for contracting HIV from a tattoo is minimal. You are only at risk if you come in contact with infected blood. The only one at greater risk is your artist. We take every precaution possible to prevent the spread of HIV.
IF YOU HAVE ANY DISEASE THAT IS TRANSMISSIBLE VIA BLOOD YOU ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO TELL OUR STAFF. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN LEGAL ACTION.
Other Things You Should Know
• Skin colour will affect the brightness of colours used in a tattoo, you need to think of the colour of your skin as a lens that covers the colour of your tattoo.
• Variations in colour and design may exist between any tattoo you select and as ultimately applied to your body.
• Obtaining a tattoo is by your choice and your choice alone. Our artists may be able to assist you in the style of design you may get, but we will not tattoo you unless we have your explicit consent to do so.
- While you are being tattooed you do reserve the right to stop the tattooing process at any time for any reason. We do however, ask you to let us know if you do need to stop for any reason, and not suddenly jump or move away while being tattooed as this may result in a mistake in your tattoo.
- If you do start to feel unwell in any shape or form while being tattooed we ask that you inform either the artist that is doing your tattoo or our staff as immediately as possible.
• A tattoo is a permanent change to your appearance and no representations can be made to you regarding the ability to change, alter, or remove any tattoo.
• Health Department Warning: Tattooing May cause scarring, bleeding and nerve damage.
