How to care for your new tattoo
Remove Bandage between 1 and 4 hours after being tattooed and gently wash with warm water, unless using our Saniderm protecters, leave the barrier on for a maximum of 4 days, unless you are having an allergic reaction to it. If you are experiencing a allergic reaction, you will know, as approximately 1 hour after the barrier is applied, you may feel a burning, itchy or discomforting feeling around the barrier, NOT the tattoo. if this does happen to you, remove the barrier under some warm water, clean it with some anti-bacterial soap, pat it dry with a clean towel and re-apply a thing layer of aftercare cream. (just enough to keep the tattoo looking shiny)
Apply Bepanthen OR Tattoo Aftercare cream
Wash the tattoo gently when you bathe. pat it dry.
Do not let the force of the water from a shower spray directly on the tattoo.
Do not try to soak the scab off when bathing
Apply cream 1-2 times per day. It will speed up the healing process of you tattoo considerably. Use cream sparingly, but just enough to keep it looking shiny. The cream can be obtained from any chemist or supermarket, or from our studio.
As you noticed, you were tattooed in a clean studio. Individual sterile tubes and needles are used here, along with individual ink trays. The wipes, bandages, ink etc are all individual use also. This studio maintains the standards set forth by the Health Department.
Some Don'ts in the care of your tattoo
NEVER USE VASELINE PETROLEUM JELLY
It is simply refined crude oil and has no healing abilities.
It will cause heavy scabbing and a considerably duller looking tattoo.
NEVER USE A FRIENDS ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO HEAL YOUR NEW TATTOO
For example: No baby oil, No alcohol treatments, No mineral oil,
No Vitamin E Cream etc.
NEVER PICK AT A TATTOO
Picking can cause damage. Colourless spots can appear in the design where bits of scab have been picked or knocked off. Healing time will be slowed considerably and larger scabs will replace the light flakes that were anxiously removed.
Do not scratch, rub or abuse the tattoo in any manner.
REFRAIN FROM SOAKING THE TATTOO UNDER WATER FOR A PERIOD OF AT LEAST ONE WEEK
No swimming, No hot tubbing and No bathing the tattoo submerged.
Soaking will absolutely ruin a new tattoo.
Chlorinated or salt water are disastrous.
DO NOT SWEAT THE TATTOO FOR ONE WEEK
No saunas, No steam baths, No pumping iron or other labouring exercises that will cause perspiration. This can cause the healing process to be interfered with. Lightness in the colour can result.
DO NOT EXPOSE THE TATTOO TO SUNLIGHT FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS.
Five minutes on any part of the design is too much!
Keep it covered entirely with loose fitting clothing.
The healing tattoo will react violently to sun exposure no matter how short the duration.
The success of your new tattoo is up to you!We have given you the very best in art, the very best in colour and the tattoo was applied expertly under the most sterile conditions. When you left the studio your tattoo was treated and covered with a clean dressing. Please look after it.
